A wearable device, ranging from a glove to a full-body suit, embedded with sensors and haptic simulators.

A non-verbal communication device that allows users to go beyond visual stimulation with the help of simulated touch, pressure, force, temperature and texture for augmented, mixed, and virtual reality experiences. The device is equipped with motion-capture technology, along with different points of vibration, and might include electrostatic brakes and piezoelectric actuators for cutaneous feedback. Some devices incorporate biometric sensors to collect vital data signals, helping record and improve performance.

This device is commonly glove-shaped, allowing people to use their hands in a virtual world as if they were in a concrete environment. There are also full-bodysuit models, similar to surfing wetsuits, for more immersive experiences. Most current haptic devices must be connected to a system via cables, but there are emerging products that function untethered. Even though most applications today are in the gaming and entertainment industry, there is growing potential in healthcare training or surgical support.
