Technology is a major driving force for human transformation. It can influence how we work, live and love while empowering revolutions, shortening distances and even changing the course of natural evolution. However, as we all have learned by now, change is not always for the better and "better" might differ drastically depending on who you ask.

With that in mind, it becomes clear that it is not enough to map emerging technologies to find new solutions for our current—and future—challenges. It's also crucial to analyse them through various angles and imagine new routes for possible bumps in these very complex development roads.

Envisioning has been dedicated to producing new metrics that can elucidate the disruptive potentials of emerging technologies, clarifying new development roads while adding warning signals for possible bumps.

Technology Readiness Level (TRL)

Technology Readiness Level is a metric that shows the development stage of a technology application. It ranges from 1 to 9; the higher the ranking, the more they are technically ready. Technology applications can be at the same time scientifically ready (TRL 9) but not yet widespread throughout the globe.

Sustainability Impact Metric

The Sustainability Impact Metric intends to evaluate emerging technologies application's potential impact in four dimensions (economic, ecological, social, and cross-cutting questions). Each dimension has three criteria, derived into questions and exemplified with signals that outline how these criteria might come to life.

Gender Impact Metric

The Gender Impact Metric intends to assess the potential gender equality impact that the widespread use of a technology application might imply in the social fabric of communities.
