Operating in a short high-energy wavelength of 865-960 megahertz, this Radio-Frequency Identification tag can be read from distances of 30 or more meters. Compared to low and high-frequency RFID tags, it offers an exceptionally far read distance and high data transfer rates. It is, however, affected by opaque materials such as water or metals, which block the radio signals.

Together with the tag, there is a reader/interrogator and an antenna for communication. Also, it functions as an active or passive tag. The first requires batteries to work, and the latter is powered by the electromagnetic energy transmitted from an RFID reader. This technology is used to track an asset's location and is popular in inventory tracking, logistics, and race timing.
