A responsive road surface mounted on sensors, machine vision, and cameras, designed to react in real-time to citizens' flow in urban areas.

Through the combination of bright LEDs, machine vision monitoring, sensors, and cameras, this interactive walking path detects traffic movements and provides visual feedback for pedestrians while walking on the sidewalk, crossing the street, or drivers when approaching intersections. The pavement is comprised of a series of slip-resistant mat panels embedded with LED lights and it is held together by a metal framework to ensure that the panels hold up under the weight of vehicles and inclement weather.

Powered with a neural network, the sidewalk is constantly gathering data from the embedded sensors, which is then analyzed in real-time to classify and respond to future pedestrian movements and trajectories. The resulting data is later relayed to the system itself, enabling the sidewalk to react according to individual actions and movements. This solution is intended to help reduce the number of accidents at intersections and assist people with disabilities and with reduced mobility to move about the city.
