Street furniture constructed out of biocomposite materials collected from waste streams.
Street furniture constructed out of biocomposite materials collected from waste streams.

A type of urban furniture made from biogenic material extracted from renewable sources, like biomass. Materials used range from natural fibers to recycled wood, which is then converted into bins, street signs, or benches for public use. The bio-furniture does not produce any pollutants as the biomaterial decomposes naturally into the environment.

Besides using materials found in nature, bio-furniture can also be manufactured from agricultural byproducts such as residual compost, cellulose from wastewater plants, and biofuel residues, like bio-plastic. The manufacturing process occurs either by printing furniture with 3D printing or assembling modular parts similar to carpentry but with different materials than wood.
